Musical theatre lover Ellen lives in London with her dog Bella. Ellen joined the Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People Insights Panel after being diagnosed with leukaemia as a child.
I had acute promyelocytic leukaemia when I was nine years old and relapsed when I was 12 which also caused a stroke. Due to the intense treatment that I had, I’ve been left with multiple late effects that impact my life daily.
When I heard about the Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People Insights Panel, I knew instantly that I wanted to be part of it. For me, it’s important to give something back and be able to share my experiences and my voice in future projects and research.
We’re sent e-consultations every other month and have two weeks to send back our feedback. We also attend virtual meetings every three months. These happen online and are an opportunity for us to hear more about Cancer Research UK’s work for children and young people and meet and chat with the other panel members.
You don’t need any specific qualifications or knowledge about research to be part of the panel. The panel has given me a purpose and I feel that I'm making a difference for current and future people who are impacted by cancer.
I’m thrilled to be part of this panel and hopefully help others. Join me in helping to bring the voice of people affected by children and young people’s cancers to Cancer Research UK.
