Opportunity Information

Cancer Research UK have commissioned a project with The University of Warwick to develop Target Product Profiles (TPPs). TPPs provide a blueprint researchers can use to take a promising new technology, which meets the needs of those who will be using them, from the bench to the bedside. The hope is that by using TPPs, more new tests will make it to patients and improve diagnosis and cancer care.

The project aims to develop a TPP for new bladder and kidney cancer tests to help diagnose cancer earlier, when more treatment options are available, leading to improved outcomes for patients. Researchers at The University of Warwick are creating a panel of people affected by cancer who’ll help shape decisions made by an expert advisory group for this project. The views of this panel will help ensure the research carefully considers the needs and experiences of patients. They’re currently in phase 3 of the programme which focusses on bladder and kidney cancer and so are looking for people affected by these cancers to join the group.

What you’ll get out of it:

  • Contribute to a new and exciting area of research that could help more promising tests make it to patients.
  • The opportunity to share your experiences to help shape the future research of new tests that meet the needs of patients.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Attend 3 x 1.5-hour Patient Advisory Panel meetings (online – Jan, March & June tbc)
  • Share your thoughts and feedback on the project information presented
  • Bring your lived experience of being diagnosed with cancer and your thoughts around the acceptability of different tests.
  • Provide your views on the draft TPP which will be informed by your previous feedback
  • Potentially attend a consensus meeting, in-person at the University of Warwick (Sept, 2025)

Looking for people who:

  • Are or have been affected by bladder or kidney cancer (or other urological cancers).
  • Are comfortable and willing to share their experience and opinions
  • Have good communication skills and the ability to share their thoughts
  • Can access online meetings through a computer/tablet and a stable internet connection (Microphone and camera needed)
  • Can commit to all the meetings

You do not need to have:

  • Any prior knowledge of Cancer Research UK or the work being done
  • An understanding of research or science

In this role, you will be supported by:

  • Holding an introductory session to help you understand the aim of the project and the role you’ll play
  • Sending key information which may be useful for you to read prior to the meetings
  • Reasonable adjustments will be made, where needed, to facilitate participation (e.g., sending hard copy reading materials for meetings in the post rather than by email)
