Closing date: 25 March 2024

The Cancer Data Patient and Public Community Steering Group will help build a new community of people affected by cancer, as well as the public, who’ll be actively involved in all of Cancer Research UK’s activities around the use of patient data in research. The Steering Group and the wider Community will become a valued and core part of delivering our exciting Research Data Strategy.

We’re looking to recruit a diverse group of up to 10 people to join the Steering Group. Please note that:

  • No previous experience or knowledge about data or research is required to join the group but a commitment to learn about the subjects will be important.
  • We particularly welcome applications from people from diverse backgrounds, and from marginalised groups or unrepresented communities.
  • This role is initially for 12 months but we hope to be able to extend it for up to 3 years as the Community establishes itself.
  • Meetings will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams monthly for up to 2 hours, with face to face (with hybrid attendance option) meetings twice a year.
  • The Steering Group will make key decisions about how the Community will run and make recommendations to Cancer Research UK on the delivery of its Research Data Strategy.

We’re looking to hear from all people affected by cancer, as well as people with no experience of cancer. We’re particularly interested in hearing from people from groups:

  • People on lower incomes (for example, those who receive income support, are unemployed or retired)
  • People from LGBTQIA+ groups
  • People from ethnic minority groups
  • People who think that their experiences or circumstances throughout life may have affected their health, or experience of cancer
  • People with little or no experiences of cancer themselves or in their family
